St Bartholomews Church
The village is lucky to have a unique and very beautiful church, St Bartholomews, which epitomises the ethos of the village itself. Small, homely, welcoming and at the very heart of the community, special quarterly events are held to celebrate the spirit and benefits of living within the Parish with participation from a wide section of the community. 

Village Hall 
The hall has recently been renovated to a high standard and can be rented out at a very reasonable cost. The current charges for hire (2020)

Valley Views  Valley Views

Valley Views covers the Parish Churches of Ashmore, Fontmell Magna, Iwerne Minster, Shroton & Stepleton, and Sutton Waldron and is published monthly. 

 

Local Facilities

Local Schools

  • Fontmell Magna Under Fives Pre-School has been established in the village for over 30 years. They care for children aged 2.9 - 5 years, and are located in Fontmell Magna Village Hall. 

  • St. Andrew's Primary School is located on West Street, in Fontmell Magna. 
  •  Shaftesbury School is a voluntary controlled school for children aged 11-18 set high above the Blackmore Vale on the edge of the ancient and picturesque town of Shaftesbury

Bus Timetables - The local bus service (83) runs between Shaftesbury, Blandford and Wimborne. Connections to other destinations can be made at those towns.


 

Activity Groups

There are both 'formal' and 'informal' groups that welcome newcomers or visitors to the area

S.W.I.M. Womens Institute - Part of the National Womens Institution (WI), the group includes residents from both Sutton Waldron and Iwerne Minster. 
Meets Monthly 

Coffee Mornings
A chat with a nice cup of tea and a bit of cake in the village hall.
Fortnightly - Wednesdays 10-11.30 am

 

Sutton Waldron Film Nights 
No charges are made for attending these film nights although donations are always welcome to offset the cost of wine/coffee provided. 

Steps in Time Dance Group - A youth (3-16) traditional dance group based in Sutton Waldron. They perform locally and internationally and have represented both Dorset and England. Contact Penny-Jane Swift 07988 908841 or info@stepsintime.org.uk

 

Unfinished Objects - An informal group to have a chat whilst swopping advice on craftwork, sewing, knitting etc.
